New Delhi: Six people, who were arrested in connection with violence during the anti-Sterlite protests in Tuticorin on May 22, have been detained under the National Security Act.
The people who have been detained under the NAS are: Kaleel Rahuman, 47, of Melapalayam, his sons Mohamed Irshad, 21, and Mohamed Yunus,22, Kottaiyan,36, of Usilampatti in Madurai, Saravanan,29, and Velmurugan,26, of Kovilpatti in Tuticorin district. All of them are lodged in the Palayamkottai Central Prison.
Thirteen people died in police firing during the anti-Sterlite protests in Tuticorin on May 22.
Police arrested several people in connection with incidents of violence, including burning of vehicles on the Tuticorin collectorate campus, stone pelting and damaging public property.
